  • Going to the Vatican and in churches, you should remember to wear appropriate attire - no sleeveless, no shorts, no bare knees.

  • Morning Mass in St.Peter's Basilica is held at 9:00 am, 10:00 am, 11:00 am and 12:00 pm at the St Joseph Altar. Afternoon Mass is held at 5:00 pm at the Main Altar.

  • Churches opening times vary enormously but are roughly from 7:30 am to 12:30 pm and from 3:00 to 6:30 pm. In summertime, the afternoon times run about onr hour later.

  • A taxi ride in the city center may cost between 8 to 20 euro. A car can take up to 4 people. The number of cabs housing 5 people is increasing. You can reserve them calling 06 3570 or 06 4994.

  • The flat taxi rate for a transfers between the airport to the city center (within the Aurelian Walls) is 48 euro. The fee includes the luggage.

  • Rome tap water is drinkable! Rome ornamental drinking fountains provide only pure excellent spring water brought by aqueducts from distant hills.

  • Shopping hours are normally from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm and 3:30 to 7:30 pm. Many stores are open all day starting at 10:00 am.

  • Clock shift: for daylight saving time, you should advance your watch one hour forward in spring (mid-March), and 1 hour backward in autumn (mid-October).

  • Climate is generally mild and pleasant. Rome is mostly visited in spring and fall. The weather is nice but the city tends to be very crowded starting from Easter until the middle of July, and in September and October. Winters are usually moderate. January can sometimes be freezing cold and wet. In summertime, the temperatures can reach as high as 35°C (95°F) in July and August.

  • Best panoramic views of the city: Terrazza Caffarelli, Roma dal Cielo, Castel Sant Angelo, Gianicolo, St. Peter's dome, Zodiaco.

  • Special opening: Palazzo Valentini.
